Update 2012

Year of the Dragon ~ where will it take us?

In Chinese cosmology this calendar cycle is represented by the mythical dragon.
And we are moving into it with tension flaming up over much of the Near and Middle East, threatening to pull nations into major conflict. This amidst the wide-spread economic crisis, and resource depletion knocking ever harder on the door. The weather patterns are rapidly changing, with industrial agriculture seriously unprepared for ensuing challenges. That is many "dragons", all at once.
But such dragons are of the European mythology, not Chinese.
In Old Europe the dragon was a feared fire-spewing monster. Nearly its antitheses in behavior, the Oriental dragon was perceived as a benevolent creature. It is these (apparently extinct?) helpers we sorely need now as the Earth burns and "monsters" of one kind or another seem to dominate the scene.

Nevertheless, as small glimmers of hope, our world is still full of dragonflies -- in Japanese culture the symbol of courage, strength and happiness.

Will we -- like this dragonfly -- take flight once the rising sun dries our dew-laden wings?
What manner of warming rays can we expect in this world that we have long exploited, what forgiveness? Hmmm...
